Frequently Asked Questions: Transmission Service
How do I know if my transmission is going bad?
Common signs include slipping gears, delayed or rough shifting, grinding noises, fluid leaks under the vehicle, and a lit check engine or transmission warning light. If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule a diagnostic inspection at your nearest CAR FIX location right away. Early diagnosis typically means a less expensive repair.
How often should I have my transmission fluid flushed?
Most manufacturers recommend a transmission fluid flush every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, but this varies by vehicle make, model, and driving conditions. If you’re unsure, bring your vehicle in for an oil change and we’ll inspect your transmission fluid condition at no extra charge.
Is it better to repair, rebuild, or replace my transmission?
It depends on the extent of the damage, your vehicle’s age and value, and your budget. Repair is best for isolated issues; rebuilding makes sense when multiple internal components are worn but the case is intact; full replacement is recommended for severely damaged units. CAR FIX technicians will present all three options with honest, upfront pricing so you can decide with confidence.
How long does a transmission repair take at CAR FIX?
Minor repairs and fluid services are often completed the same day. More involved repairs or replacements typically take one to two business days. We offer complimentary shuttle service and loaner cars at participating locations so you’re never stranded while we work on your vehicle.
Does CAR FIX service all vehicle types?
Yes. Our ASE-certified technicians service transmissions in domestic, imported, European, and diesel vehicles including cars, trucks, and SUVs. With 11 locations across East Tennessee, you’ll find a CAR FIX shop equipped to handle your vehicle near you.
